Dry Eyes? Emerald Coast Eye Care Has the Tool for You.
Do your eyes itch, burn, sting, or water like crazy? Maybe you have even been prescribed eye drops that you use religiously, but you are still experiencing these symptoms. There is a chance you may have Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD) aka the leading cause of dry eye disease. MGD refers to your Meibomian glands (the oil glands along the edge of the eyelids where the eyelashes are found) not secreting enough oil, or the oil they do secrete is of poor quality.
So how can we help?
Our new in-office 15 minute procedure, TearCare, is able to utilize heat therapy and expression to remove blockage from your Meibomian glands in order to simulate the production of tears.
The 15-Minute Process:
We will first place two flexible eyelid devices on your upper and lower eyelids. They’re made of a soft, flexible material that conform to your eye’s natural shape and sit comfortably throughout the procedure. One tip to remember before having this procedure done is to not wear any eye makeup or face lotions on the day of in order for the devices to properly stick. Once the devices are placed, they will then deliver a therapeutic heat that, combined with blinking, will help unclog the glands.
How TearCare Stands Out Among Competitors:
The comfort and quickness of the procedure allows the patient to feel at ease throughout the process. The freedom of being able to blink your eyes as needed is something patients especially enjoy.
“In subjects with more severe gland dysfunction, TearCare performed significantly better than LipiFlow in improving quality of vision and overall DED.” according to a study done by Edward J. Holland et al. (2021).
In fact, the study proved that “TearCare provides significant dry eye disease (DED) symptom relief at 1 month after a single treatment.”
